BACKGROUND

I began painting when I was six years old with my mother (thanks Mom). I grew up in Scottsboro, Alabama where I spent many days horseback riding through corn fields, hiking in the foothills of the Appalachians, and swimming in the lakes in the summertime. I studied art in high school at the Sewanee Academy in Sewanee, Tennessee and at college, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Auburn University with a double major in Visual Communications and Painting.

I worked in graphic design and communications for thirty years and put my painting aside. After retirement from my commercial art career in 2017, I went back to painting and my love of fine art.

MEDIUM

I love playing in mixed media and the freedom it allows. I love the texture and dimension offered, and how pieces change in the light from different angles. I work with recycled glass and resin, and am intrigued by the way the glass captures the reflections of the light dancing across the canvas and the shine of the resin, which brings everything to life. This effect creates interest on the canvas unlike any other medium I know. The sparkle and shine make me feel happy and I hope to bring that feeling to others through my art. I am most interested in creating art that evokes a feeling of being relaxed, calm, peaceful and cheerful, with a bit of whimsy and curiosity thrown in.

INSPIRATION

In 2019, my hubby Jim and I moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida with our two dogs Tinker and Chili to be near the beach. I am inspired by the love of God, family, friends and animals, the human spirit, traveling, the amazing outdoors, and all the beauty which surrounds us. I love doing pieces which represent the beaches and sea life in the Gulf of Mexico. The coastal colors, casual vibe, and variety of wildlife all speak to me. Everywhere you look there's a treasure waiting to be discovered. When I'm not painting, you will find me playing tennis, cycling or enjoying the beautiful beaches in our area. There's definitely no shortage of inspiration when you're living in paradise!
